Are you finding yourself playing more board games this year? Staying home has given many families a chance to rediscover simple, screen-free evenings, and our household is no exception. Family game time after dinner has become a regular and much-loved part of our routine.
One game we received as a gift last year has quickly become a favorite—we’ve played it countless times. It’s easy to learn, yet offers real strategy, so everyone from kids to adults enjoys it. If you’re shopping for a similar game for the holidays, you may still be able to find it in time.

Another classic in our home is what we affectionately call “the marble game” (known to many as Aggravation). This one has been a dinner table tradition in our family for 25 years. We started playing it when our children were little because it was a game they could enjoy at any age. Its playful competition and fast rounds make it a perfect family choice.

The game shown above is another favorite. Like the others, it’s straightforward to learn but allows for clever strategy, which keeps every player engaged. It’s a great option for family nights when you want something that moves quickly but still rewards thoughtful play.

My parents recently picked up a wooden Scrabble board that works beautifully as both a game and a decorative piece in their living room. If you like to leave games out for easy access and aesthetic appeal, a nicely made edition like this is ideal. It’s a lovely balance of function and style for a home where the game might stay on display.
UPDATE 2021: Looking for more ideas? My daughter shared a live video showcasing additional family favorites, including several card games not mentioned here. It’s a helpful way to see more options in action if you want new recommendations for game night.
