Mason Jars
It doesn’t get much simpler than this. I love easy, quick decorating ideas, and Mason jars are one of my go-to solutions year-round. They’re inexpensive, versatile, and instantly add charm to any space or event.
We’ve used Mason jars in many ways: lining the front walkway last winter, as accents at my daughter’s summer wedding reception, and for seasonal displays in the fall. Fill them with a base material and add a candle—simple variations make them fit any occasion.
You can use Epsom salts to simulate snow or sand, which works wonderfully for winter or beach-themed arrangements. For fall and Halloween, candy corn makes a cheerful filler. Other attractive options include coffee beans, seashells, jelly beans, marbles, or fresh cranberries. Swap candle colors to match your palette—neutral tapers for an elegant look, bright votives for a festive touch.
The beauty of Mason jar décor is how customizable it is: change fillers, add ribbons or twine, tuck in a sprig of greenery, or cluster jars at different heights for a centerpiece. They work indoors and outdoors; if you place them outdoors, use flameless candles for safety and longevity.
For winter scenes, layer Epsom salts with tiny ornaments or glitter for a frosted effect. For spring and summer, fill jars with fresh flowers and sand, or use bright candies and colored stones. In autumn, swap in warm-toned fillers like cranberries, miniature gourds, or dried corn kernels to echo seasonal colors.
These jars are also great for events: use numbered tags for table settings, personalize each jar as a favor, or create a pathway of glowing jars for a cozy entrance. They’re low-cost, reusable, and easy to store between uses.
