As we continue our Best of the Best series focused on bedrooms, it feels like a good moment to explore some of the most appealing bedroom color schemes. “Best” is personal — the ideal palette depends on your home, the light in your room, your furniture, and your personal taste and mood.

Your bedroom should be a retreat, a place that invites you to relax and decompress. When choosing colors, remember that what looks perfect in a photo won’t always translate exactly to your space. Photographs capture a single perspective, but your actual room has scale, texture, windows, and architectural details that affect how colors read.

Take time to study your room: note its size, the direction of light, nearby finishes like flooring and trim, and any existing furnishings you plan to keep. Those elements determine which colors will feel harmonious and comfortable in the long term.

Use inspiration photos as starting points rather than exact blueprints. Pull a few elements you love — a contrast of neutrals and a pop color, patterned textiles, or layered textures — and adapt them to work with the realities of your room. A bedroom should not only be visually inviting but also nurturing: a space that supports restful sleep and calm.

After you’ve collected ideas, step away from the images and consider what truly appeals to you in your own space. My previous bedroom was a soft gray-blue that complemented the Hickory floors; my current master is a moody charcoal plum. It wasn’t a color I expected to choose, but in a small room it felt cozy and comforting. Changing a room later is always an option, and sometimes a surprising color becomes one you love.

Below are a variety of pretty and fresh bedroom palettes to spark ideas. Consider which schemes attract you and why, then imagine how the colors would interact with your room’s light and finishes.

Ask yourself: what about each photo inspires you, and which elements would work (or not) in your own home? Stand in your room and imagine the perfect palette for your space.
