Join in our 2011 Fall Nesting Party!

It is finally time for the third annual fall nesting party—welcome! I can hardly believe I’ve been blogging long enough to host a third annual event. This year I’m especially grateful for the many like-minded friends I’ve met around the world who appreciate the simple joys of fall. Let’s celebrate the season together—hip hip hooray for fall!

On Monday I spent the day doing what I love most: nesting. Nesting is the simple act of making your house feel like a home. It doesn’t matter whether you live in a house or an apartment, whether you rent or own, or where you are located—nesting is something we can all do right where we are.

Fall nesting is my favorite annual ritual. I do feel a small twinge of sadness as I pack away summer items—I love the fresh, airy feel of summer décor—but settling in for fall fits my personality best. I’m a homebody at heart. If you haven’t started your fall nesting yet, begin with a few simple changes around your home. You don’t need to overhaul everything to enjoy the season.

One of the first things I do—along with lighting cinnamon spice candles—is make my own fall potpourri mix. Fall should smell inviting, warm, and delicious. Store-bought potpourri can sometimes feel dated, so I like to refresh it with a few personal touches.

I picked up a bag of fall potpourri on sale. It smelled nice but didn’t quite match my aesthetic, so I customized it. I mixed in scented pinecones and a bit of green moss, then—just for a playful contrast—I added seashells and a few white starfish. The combination of fall elements with seaside textures felt unexpected and fresh. I love combinations that make you pause and smile.

I’ll be sharing plenty more fall posts as I continue to nest around the house. I’m cozying things up and have new touches to show. If you enjoy seasonal inspiration, I’ll be posting ideas to help you embrace autumn and make your space feel warm and inviting.

And speaking of fall, I’ll be preparing a month-long series called 31 Days of Autumn Bliss starting October 1st. The series will include autumn and holiday-related posts to inspire us to fully embrace the season and find beauty in the everyday while looking forward to the holidays ahead. I’m excited to share it—it should be fun!
