Home-Style Saturdays: Cozy Ideas for Staying In and Entertaining

Hi, sweet friends — greetings from me and smiling Jack! How are you? So much can change in a week. As I mentioned previously, “staying in is the new going out,” and this year that has become truer than I could have imagined. We’re tucked into our home, doing our best to stay calm and healthy. Living in Seattle, which quickly became an epicenter of the recent health crisis in the U.S., brought many sudden changes to everyday life.

My brief empty-nester phase didn’t last long—two of my three children have returned home. Courtney moved into our lower level to save money for a while, and Luke came back when his college closed and classes moved online for the rest of the semester. They aren’t allowed to remain in dorms, so he’ll be with us through the summer. Kylee, meanwhile, is safe at her home with her husband, Lance.

Having more of my family under one roof has been a silver lining, even as routines shift. Life will look different for a time, but at least we’re together. We’re adjusting, praying for protection, and doing our best to stay grounded despite the unusual and sometimes frantic circumstances around us.

I know many people face far greater challenges right now, and our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who’s struggling. I’m deeply grateful for the support you show our family and our small business; your encouragement helps us continue doing what we love.

As a homebody, I appreciate the part of this situation that keeps us at home, yet I’m unsettled by everything happening beyond our front door. It’s hard knowing people we love are sick and that so many will be affected in the weeks ahead.

Even amid uncertainty, I want to protect the atmosphere of our home. More than ever, I want our home to be a place of peace, joy, faith, beauty, comfort, and wellness. I choose to focus on what I can do to make our home a sanctuary — a safe shelter in every sense. I’m honored to continue inspiring you to do the same.

We’ll aim to stay positive, encouraging, and authentic. This is a difficult season, and the world can feel very unsettling. As a community, we’ll continue supporting one another and bringing beauty, hope, and joy into the places we call home.

I have some fun projects and ideas planned, so let’s stick together and make the most of this time.

I hope you enjoy the inspiration in this week’s Home Style Saturdays!
