I love receiving comments and emails from women who connect with what I share on The Inspired Room. It feels wonderful to be part of a community that supports me and relates so well to one another through comments and shared ideas online.
Many of us long to find “our people.” When you discover those who understand your tastes, quirks, values, and limitations—and accept you anyway—it’s a comforting, energizing feeling. Those connections matter.
Through blogging we share photos of our homes, practical tips for homemaking and decorating, and stories in the comments. I enjoy hearing about your projects, your pets’ antics, and the little everyday moments that make life real. You send photos, encouragement, and notes that turn online interaction into something personal and meaningful.
Those daily exchanges can grow into friendships based on shared interests and experiences. It’s uplifting to feel support when you’re excited or in need. Even when I only know you online, your encouragement feels like real friendship—whether you’re cheering for a blog nomination or celebrating a small success. You feel like friends, and I appreciate that greatly.
Even so, online connection isn’t the same as having someone drop by with soup if you’re sick or come over to help paint a room. As much as I’d love to visit and share cookies, most online acquaintances aren’t able to offer that kind of in-person support. That’s why local, real-life relationships remain important.
Have you found your real-life people? Neighbors and local friends who notice when you’re not quite yourself and are willing to reach out? Or have you considered how you might be the one to brighten someone else’s day—by offering a kind gesture, running an errand, or simply being present?
One online community I value, (in)courage, is helping to encourage real-life connection in neighborhoods and cities. On April 28th, women around the world can attend or host an (in)courage in-real-life event in homes, coffee shops, and churches. This informal gathering—the (in) real life un-conference—offers a chance to meet locally and build relationships face to face.
The women at my church are hosting a location, and I’m excited for local women to attend, bring friends, and introduce themselves to new neighbors. I hope our community will foster friendships like those inspired by Emily—people who show they care through thoughtful, everyday acts like running to the store for you.
Interested in attending or hosting an (in) real life event? I hope you’ll sign up. Find more information on local meetups and event details if you’d like to join or host an (in) real life gathering in your area.
