Master Bathroom Refresh Guide: Stylish Updates for a Modern Look

The Inspired Room Simple Bathroom Paint Refresh - Before and After
This post is in partnership with Homewerks.

A few weeks ago I decided it was finally time to refresh my master bathroom with a coat of paint. We’ve lived in this house for more than six years and the bathroom walls still wore the original builder beige—dingy, marked, and long overdue for an update. The room had served us well, but the worn color and scuffs made it feel tired. A fresh coat of paint was the quickest way to brighten the space and make it feel cared for again.

This bathroom was the last room in our home to shed that builder beige. Rather than taking on a full renovation, I focused on a realistic, budget-friendly refresh since we are preparing the house to sell. That meant keeping the tile, cabinetry, lighting, and mirror intact, and concentrating on paint and a few new accessories to give the room a more spa-like feel.

Because the tub sits beneath a skylight, it’s a natural place to create a calming soak zone. I added potted plants, candles, fluffy white towels, fragrant soaps, and a small bench to make the area feel inviting. These simple touches go a long way toward creating a spa atmosphere without a major overhaul.

On the vanity I placed a small glass-and-metal table to serve as a neat shelf for accessories and added stone soap dispensers to replace disposable plastic ones. White robes hang on hooks for convenience, and we mounted a pair of mirrors—one day we might add a frame to the main mirror if time allows.

To complete the experience, I wanted soothing music for long soaks. We installed a new Bluetooth-enabled fan with a built-in stereo speaker and LED light. The round unit on the ceiling combines ventilation with wireless audio and a nightlight that can glow white or blue. It’s controlled by a wall switch and a compact remote, and it has transformed the bathroom into a more enjoyable space for morning routines and evening relaxation.

Our previous fan had become noisy and inefficient, so swapping it out for a modern Bluetooth fan-speaker was an easy upgrade. We hired an electrician to install the unit since we were short on time, but installation is straightforward and could be a doable DIY for someone comfortable with basic electrical work. Our electrician was so impressed he bought one for his own home.

Even our Goldendoodle, Jack, seems convinced the bathroom is a little slice of spa heaven—he relaxes by the tub listening to music. That small, peaceful moment sealed how successful the refresh feels.

For now, I’m delighted with how fresh and bright the bathroom looks. The paint, a few well-chosen accessories, and the Bluetooth fan-speaker created a calm, updated space without a major remodel. If I get time to add more details before we move, I’ll share updates, but even this modest makeover made a big difference.
