Spring Decorating
Last week I gave my family room mantel a fresh, simple spring update.
To welcome the season I added a few live spring plants and a moss wreath. Green feels like the perfect first hint of spring. I know the plants might not survive the whole season, but I plan to enjoy them while they last — and remember to water them whenever I can.
About the moss wreath: I could have made one, but I chose to buy an affordable, ready-made wreath instead. It was perfect, quick, and mess-free. Sometimes a finished piece that doesn’t require glue or fuss is exactly what I want.
I love decorating, and while I occasionally make things, I usually prefer to arrange pretty items rather than undertake complicated projects. I’m no DIY expert and I’m fine with that — sometimes enjoying beautiful objects is enough.
By the way, do you ever buy orchids at Trader Joe’s? They’re always so lovely.
The mantel needed a small finishing touch, so I repurposed a few plastic craft eggs from last year’s display. They add just a hint of yellow, which brightens the arrangement without overpowering it.
Here’s the egg-branch creation from last year. That’s my kind of easy DIY — no glue guns, no burns, and plastic eggs are hard to damage.
These small, delicate flowers from the plant on the mantel were too charming to leave behind.
I believe they might be a type of winter rose, though I don’t remember exactly what the garden center called them. Regardless, they’re simply lovely.
Come on, Spring. My mantel is ready for you.
I enjoy wandering through garden shops and nurseries. Even though I sometimes fail at keeping plants alive, strolling along gravel paths and admiring healthy greenery is therapeutic and inspiring.
