Happy news — we’re planning several new projects for our home this year. I’ve delayed major updates to a few key rooms because I wanted to be sure any changes felt right for the long term. Instead of rushing into renovations, I spent years imagining possibilities and weighing options. Now I finally know what I want to do and I’m excited to share the plans and inspiration with you.
Before diving into bigger rooms, we’ve been finishing up a few small projects in our lower level that I’ll show soon, along with updates to our stairs. There are many stories, ideas, and decisions behind each change, so I’ll start with one simple project and build from there.
Recently I shared this idea on Instagram stories. The photo at the top of this post is my inspiration for a new master bedroom. In short, we plan to move our master from its current spot to the opposite side of the house — the current location of our son’s room — which will allow us to add French doors opening to the side patio.

You might remember the long saga of the side patio installation — it was quite an ordeal and took time to recover from the process. Now I’m inspired to make that outdoor space even more special. Currently we access the patio through a Dutch door in the kitchen, but relocating the master will let us install French doors directly from the bedroom, creating a private connection to the outdoors. I imagine morning coffee on the patio, dinners al fresco, and watching the sunset over the water from our own little spot.
We could already enjoy the patio as things stand, but connecting it directly to the bedroom will change how it feels — more intimate and personal. We don’t have room for an enormous master suite, and that’s fine. My goal is to create a small bedroom that feels intentional, warm, and charming rather than oversized. Small spaces can be full of character when thoughtfully designed.

We won’t be adding an extension or changing the roofline to match the inspiration image, but our nearby round window and existing details will help achieve a similar vibe. The goal is to create harmony between the interior and the patio, using doors and finishes that feel cohesive with the rest of the house.
Tomorrow I’ll share lots of inspiration photos for patio doors and ideas for making the transition from bedroom to outdoor space smooth and stylish.
In future posts I’ll go into more detail about the new bedroom and bathroom design, ideas to enhance the side patio’s privacy and charm, and plans for our mint-and-pink bathroom. I’ll also share what we might do with the original master suite and several updates I’m considering to improve both the character and function of our living room and other areas of the home.
Thanks for following along as we continue to make this house our own. It’s exciting to watch our home evolve with more personality and thoughtful design. I can’t wait to share the vision and progress for each update.
