Cozy Up in the Snug: Latest Room Updates and Design Tips

This post is in partnership with Wayfair

I’ll admit it: our Snug has long been a catchall. This week I finally carved out time to pull the space together. After decluttering, rearranging pieces we already owned, and adding a few carefully chosen items from Wayfair, the room feels much more intentional and useful.

There’s still more I want to do over time, but we always embrace baby steps. Let me show you around.

This room is long and narrow, and it had to serve a lot of purposes, so arranging furniture was a challenge. By paring down and rearranging what we had, I finally found a layout that works. Adding a few missing pieces made the room feel cozier and less like an afterthought.

Here’s what I added from Wayfair:

Checkered lampshade and desk lamp, Chinoiserie lamp, botanical art set, storage end table, two textured pillows, a jute rug, and a metal task floor lamp. These accents brought function, texture, and warmth to the space.

Wayfair often has cottage-style pieces that complement my aesthetic. With seasonal sales approaching, it’s a great time to shop for home updates and holiday gifts.

I hope you enjoy the photos and this little update on the Snug.

I like to use what we already own whenever possible. The books on the bookcase in this room are the ones I wrote, so it’s fun to decorate with them since I also use this room as my office.

We were missing an end table on one side of the couch, so I was happy to find a navy storage end table with ample surface space and interior shelving. It also includes built-in electrical outlets and USB ports on top, which makes charging phones and powering lamps effortless.

I’m still deciding what to place on the adjustable shelf inside the end table—so many possibilities. Its flexibility will let the piece serve different needs over time.

The jute rug helped anchor the seating group and tie furniture together. I also fell in love with a set of botanical prints that created a lovely focal point above the couch. The set includes several framed pieces; we used five to balance the wall.

The botanical set has a vintage feel I adore—the herringbone fabric mats and beaded brass frames give the pieces character. They arrive ready to hang, which made the installation quick and simple.

Lighting makes a big difference, especially as the days grow darker. A checkered desk lamp adds personality and task light, while a blue-and-white Chinoiserie lamp brings classic style—complete with subtle bird motifs.

For reading, I prefer pharmacy-style lamps because they offer adjustable light. A metal task floor lamp that raises and lowers works perfectly beside the couch. I also added two new pillows in neutral blues and greens with rich texture to soften the seating area.

Finnegan adds to the coziness too—pets always make a room feel lived-in and welcoming.

I love switching on the lamps as part of an evening ritual. That warm glow makes the room feel comforting before dinner.
