Spring is here! If you’re ready to spend more time outdoors, here are simple, stylish ways to tidy and refresh your porch for the season.

1. A fresh doormat
A new doormat is an easy way to update your entry. You don’t need a new one every year, but swapping it out when it looks worn or when you want a new look makes the porch feel cared for. Even if you keep the same mat, take a few minutes to sweep the porch—removing leaves, pine needles or debris instantly brightens the space.

2. Layer a rug
Layering a larger outdoor rug beneath a smaller doormat adds texture, pattern and color. A bigger rug can also mask worn paint or concrete and make the entire porch feel more intentional. This trick creates visual interest while protecting the surface underneath.

3. Potted plants
A trip to the garden center is one of the best parts of spring. Fresh plants add life and color to your porch. If planting isn’t your thing, keep new plants in their nursery pots and tuck them into decorative containers—instant spring charm. Grouping pots of different heights and textures creates a welcoming vignette.

4. A spring door basket
Hanging a basket on the door filled with flowers or clippings is an easy, affordable way to add seasonal cheer. You can place a small vase or jar inside the basket to hold stems and refresh it whenever you like. A ribbon or simple hook works well for hanging; on a Dutch door, I usually secure the ribbon between the split panels.
These small touches — a fresh mat, layered rug, container plants, and a door basket — can transform your porch into an inviting spring entry. Have you decorated your porch for spring yet?
