Inspired by Change or Consistency: Which Path Drives Success?

When I revisited my past Christmas tour posts while preparing material for this season, I realized one of my favorite tours from 2013 never made it into a round-up I shared later. Pulling those photos out felt like a fun five-year throwback.

Looking back at earlier tours reminds me that even though we live in a different house now, many of the things that make a space feel like home remain the same. My style has evolved, but the core elements I love tend to stick with me.

On social media it often feels like constant change is expected, and I enjoy fresh ideas and new projects. Still, I find comfort in consistency—simple, familiar furnishings, neutral layers, and the kinds of Christmas decorations I return to year after year: garlands, greenery, wreaths, and twinkle lights. Those staples translate easily from one home to the next and create the cozy, timeless feeling I prefer.

Whether I’m in a new house or a longtime home, I gravitate toward simplicity and familiar textures—soft blankets, neutral ornaments, and natural accents that layer well together. Using many of the same furnishings and decorating basics lets me adapt a look without losing the warmth and personality that make a space feel lived-in.

I shared a few photos from that 2013 tour here as a nostalgic peek, and you can view the full original post if you want a deeper look at how the rooms were arranged and decorated back then.

If you’re curious about last year’s holiday look, I also posted a recent tour of my current home that shows how some ideas carry over while others were adapted for a different floor plan and scale.

Stay tuned for scenes from this year’s holiday decor—coming soon.

Which do you find more inspiring in your own home: change or consistency?

Do you reinvent your Christmas decor annually, or do you rely on classic pieces you bring out year after year?

There was a recent special offer I mentioned about preserving family memories—if you missed that post, it included details and a limited-time discount that can be a meaningful gift idea this season.

Also, I shared Christmas decorating and gift guides last year that include many of the same simple, timeless ideas I keep returning to.

I’m honored that my book was included in holiday displays at some stores this season. If you spot it in person, I’d love to see a photo—tag me on social media so I can share in the moment.
