Layering Rugs Over Carpet
One of my favorite parts of autumn is warming up the decor, and curtains are an easy way to do that. In rooms with beautiful woodwork and great views, curtains may not be necessary, but for most of us they offer real benefits. Curtains add privacy, hide imperfect windows or trim, and—most importantly—make a room feel cozier.
I reused curtains I had from my previous house to be thrifty, though I worried they might make the dining room feel closed in. Once autumn arrived, I wanted more coziness, and the fabric actually enhanced the space instead of shrinking it. More fabric softens the room visually and creates a warmer, more inviting atmosphere.
Hanging them was simple. I used a tension rod fitted from the window molding to the wall and placed a stationary panel on each side. I didn’t need them to open or close for privacy or insulation, so fixed panels were all I wanted. When the season changes, they’re easy to remove and store.
The stained glass pieces in the windows are genuine antique church panels. They’re meaningful to our family because we started a church recently, so these pieces feel personal and authentic. Stained glass adds character and conceals a less attractive view outside. I attached them to the window frame using Command Hooks, which are great for temporary displays. I love small, creative solutions that solve problems in simple, attractive ways.
Autumn encourages making our homes feel like cozy nests, and adding curtains is one small step toward that. I’m happy to finally have curtains in two rooms now—little improvements that make a noticeable difference.
Do you add or change curtains in the fall?
