Beautify Everyday Cooking with Handcrafted Wooden Spoons

31 days of falling for fall series

One guiding idea I use at home is that I don’t need to over-decorate — I simply make everyday things more beautiful.

I pay attention to small details in my home and daily routine, especially in fall and winter when I spend more time indoors nesting and homemaking.

If my coffee mugs are pretty enough to hang on a rack, my hand towels attractive enough to stack in a basket, and my cooking utensils lovely enough to sit out on the counter or hang on a wall, then decorating becomes as simple as using what I already have. Simplicity is beautiful.

This approach sums up my favorite style: less fuss, more simple beauty, and appreciation for the items I use every day. We spend so much time in the kitchen — why not love the things we use, so everyday tasks feel a little more joyful?

It takes time to collect pieces you truly love, and part of the pleasure is the patience involved in creating a home you genuinely enjoy.

I adore items that serve as both art and function, especially organic, naturally beautiful pieces. Texture is one of my favorite ways to add warmth and coziness to the kitchen this time of year.

The family behind Polder’s Old World Market kindly sent me these hand-carved, one-of-a-kind wooden spoons as a gift, and I was thrilled. I love wooden spoons, and these are truly stunning. They’re so attractive they won’t be hiding in a drawer; each piece is unique and feels like a small work of art.

I love the simple warmth wood brings — cutting boards, spoons, and bowls look beautiful against white kitchen surfaces and are a pleasure to use.

These spoons are finished only with pure olive oil, preserving the wood’s natural color and grain. They are all-natural and designed to be used for generations. They make thoughtful gifts for someone special, or a lovely treat for yourself. The shop offers many other beautiful pieces you might enjoy as well.
