Yesterday I shared a Fall table I loved, and I realized I hadn’t shown you what’s currently on my table: two glass hurricanes I received from one of my sponsors. I adore them. They’re classic, versatile, and perfect for seasonal decor.
One of the best things about these hurricanes is that you can customize them to say “Giving Thanks” or “Thanks Giving,” making them suitable for autumn gatherings and Thanksgiving celebrations.
Just to clear up a common question: the little shapes resting on the rocks at the bottom of the vase are not goldfish—they’re silk leaves. The photo angle and water can make them look like they’re swimming, which is kind of fun!
This simple centerpiece is quick to assemble and makes an immediate seasonal statement. I started by filling the base of the glass with smooth pebbles. It looked nice on its own, but I wanted a touch of autumn color, so I added a few faux leaves and then filled the jar with water. A floating candle set on top finishes the look—light it and you have instant fall ambiance.
I keep a collection of small seasonal items on hand so I can create arrangements like this in minutes. Besides floating candles, I store silk leaves, small stones, nuts, faux berries and fruit, pine cones, twigs, moss, and decorative balls or ornaments. These pieces are versatile and work in hurricanes, bowls, vases, or on trays.
As I mentioned earlier in the series, I organize many of these items in zip-top bags and tuck them into baskets or a living-room cabinet. I don’t always plan far ahead for holiday decorating—often I’m last-minute—but having supplies organized and within reach means I can assemble a pretty centerpiece whenever I want.
Quick takeaway: Gather simple supplies for a seasonal centerpiece, put them in baggies, and store them near your dining area along with hurricanes, vases, and bowls. When your materials are easy to find, you’ll be far more likely to set a lovely table for family dinners and gatherings. Try organizing a small stash today—you’ll appreciate the convenience the next time you want to decorate.
Do you have small seasonal items tucked away that you could use for an impromptu centerpiece?
