While this season has brought stress for many of us, quarantine life also creates small opportunities to enjoy simple pleasures. If you want a creative way to brighten your mornings at home, try sprinkling cinnamon in cheerful shapes on your latte. We aren’t professional baristas, but this little ritual brings a lot of joy to our kitchen.
I began adding hearts and smiley faces in cinnamon to the frothed oat milk I made for my grown children as a small way to show love. When they were little I used to draw on their napkins and shape their meals into fun forms, so keeping the tradition going at breakfast just felt natural.
My middle daughter, Courtney, has even shared her own attempts at latte art on Instagram, and they always make me smile.
Children might enjoy making cinnamon faces on milk, hot chocolate or even toast—simple, playful touches that make everyday moments feel special.
A little laughter and small rituals can go a long way right now.
I typically make our coffee with a stovetop espresso maker, heat and froth oat milk (we like Oatly!) with a milk frother, then sprinkle the cinnamon by hand to form shapes. No fancy tools required—just a steady hand and a playful spirit.

Someday we might take a real latte art class, but for now, being at home—under stay-at-home orders in our state—feels like a good chance to try new skills and create small traditions that lift our spirits. We’re all healthy and finding ways to make the days feel brighter.
What fun traditions bring joy to your home these days?
