Here’s a simple, charming Christmas decorating idea featured in my recent Christmas house tour. These mason jar snow globes are quick to make, budget-friendly, and perfect for adding a bit of seasonal whimsy to mantels, shelves, or tabletops.
For the vintage blue mason jar (I found mine at a local secondhand shop), I poured a small amount of artificial snow into the base and placed a small bottle-brush tree inside. You don’t need to glue the tree unless you plan to shake the jar to make it “snow.” If you do want the snow effect, secure the tree to the lid with hot glue before sealing and turning the jar upside down.
With a clear mason jar, we glued the miniature tree to the inside of the lid, then screwed the lid back on and inverted the jar so the scene sits neatly at the top. Add the faux snow while the jar is upright before tightening the lid so the snow settles around the base of the scene when flipped.
These jars are easy to customize: add a tiny animal figurine, place multiple small trees inside for a forest look, or tuck in a sprig of greenery for variety. Last year we used a small fox figurine for a playful touch.
To elevate the display, set your mason jar snow globes on chunky candlesticks or risers to give them more presence on a mantel or table. They work well grouped in odd numbers for visual interest.
