Welcome to my fall house tour — I’m so happy you stopped by. It feels like ages since I shared a seasonal tour, and after moving into this house last year it’s been wonderful to finally open the door and show you around. This post gathers multiple rooms and angles in one place, so treat yourself to a cozy peek inside.
Today I’m joining the Blogger Stylin’ Home Tours. If you’re arriving from Shauna’s beautiful home at The House of Silver Lining, welcome — I’m glad you’re here.

I celebrated my tenth year of blogging this past July, and fall has always been one of my favorite seasons to share here. Since I started, I’ve lived in three different houses — this one feels like home already. Inside, the house is still a work in progress, which means a mix of cozy finishes alongside ongoing projects.

My decorating philosophy stays the same across homes: keep things simple and achievable. For fall I add warmth and texture with a few natural seasonal touches rather than overwhelming themed decor. This tour shows “my house in the fall”—a preview of our cozy corners and small updates—rather than an exhaustive pumpkin guide. I’ll include a source list at the end for furniture, lighting, and accessories.

I’ll focus on our main living areas today and share the bedroom tomorrow. In the coming weeks I’ll post updates on the lower level, our small galley kitchen remodel, and a new Dutch door installation — those projects are starting soon, so there will be plenty more to show.

If you notice items you haven’t seen before, it’s likely because they’re brand new and haven’t been featured yet. I’ll share details on each update in upcoming posts — consider this a preview. Below you’ll also find a short backstory about our “white brick cottage” for newcomers or those who need a refresher.

The brief backstory of our white brick cottage
We bought this small 1950s red brick house in Seattle a year ago. At first it was one of those houses I might have passed while house-hunting, but with limited options in our price range and a need to move before school started for our son, we toured everything. The house surprised us: it’s solid, well cared for, and filled with wonderful light from large windows. The yard and views of the sky, sunsets, mountains, and Puget Sound convinced us of its potential.
Our plan is to preserve the house’s modest scale (about 1,500 square feet on the main level plus a finished basement) while updating finishes to create a fresh modern cottage feel. We’re keeping key character elements — white plaster walls, wood and slate floors, and brick and stone details — and layering in an eclectic coastal farmhouse vibe that suits our family.
This summer we painted the exterior white, so now it truly feels like our little white brick cottage. The change has made the house feel more like ours already, and I love seeing the painted brick every day.

There’s still more to do outside — concrete cleanup, adding a Dutch door and porch improvements, wrapping porch posts, installing railings, and a front fence and gate — and we’ll continue to add curb appeal next year. For now, the fresh paint has already transformed the look.

Soon you’ll see our new Dutch door reflected in this mirror. I’ll share plans and progress as we install it.

More on the hallway makeover coming soon.

This is our pup Jack (and his sister Lily in other photos). Jack is a Goldendoodle and Lily is a Labradoodle — they’re a big part of our home life and you’ll see them popping up in photos.

One of our first projects was a simple fireplace refresh — a small change that made a big difference in the room’s feel. I love budget-friendly updates that deliver a lot of impact.

We plan to open the doorway between the dining room and kitchen into a gentle arch to create a more open flow. I’m excited to share our kitchen plans as they develop.

This summer we installed shiplap in the dining room, which added instant character. Small architectural additions like shiplap go a long way toward giving a modest house personality.

See my plum bedroom in an upcoming post.

Thank you for touring our home — I loved having you drop in to see our progress. If you made it to the end, leave a comment and I’ll enter you into a giveaway for a signed set of my books (U.S. shipping only). I appreciate your support and I’ll share more updates as projects move forward.
