Wouldn’t you love to have lunch on that screened porch?
It looks cool, comfortable, and inviting — the kind of spot that draws you outside to relax on a warm summer afternoon or a cool evening.
Outdoor rooms like this inspire you to linger. The combination of weathered green chairs, a dark wood table and floor, and a sunny yellow throw rug creates a relaxed, charming mood that feels both casual and thoughtfully styled.

That funky front door is a favorite — I love it!
Mustard yellow paint paired with oversized zinc numbers makes a bold, welcoming statement: you’ve arrived. It invites guests to come in and stay awhile while adding personality to the entryway without fuss.

Turn to the left of that cheerful door and you’ll find a playful front porch.
The mix of fabrics and eclectic furnishings adds visual drama and a relaxed, collected feel. Layers of texture and pattern make the space interesting while remaining approachable and comfortable.
At my own home I’m slowly working on my porch and a few simple garden areas around the yard. I’ll be sharing more of those projects over the next few weeks as they come together.
We’ve had some rainy days lately, but I’m hoping for a stretch of good weather so I can finish the projects I’ve started. I’ve been spending every free minute outside, and even small amounts of effort have made the yard more enjoyable.
I didn’t do much gardening at my previous house — there were too many indoor projects — so it’s been a few years since I really worked a yard. I’d forgotten how much I enjoy puttering with plants and creating outdoor rooms. It’s unexpectedly therapeutic. Even if my gardening skills are imperfect, I still love the process of designing and tending outdoor spaces.
Do you enjoy creating summer spaces as much as I do? In many parts of the country it’s already been quite hot and people are likely staying inside with the air conditioner. Here in Washington we’re just gearing up for the full arrival of summer — fingers crossed for sunnier days.
