We’re back with the final clue about a major home improvement project that has swept through Casa Petersik like a storm. First, a quick recap of the clues so far: we took our Christmas tree down early, completely emptied the guest bedroom, endured some chilly days, and hung a sheet between the living room and kitchen to keep renovation dust contained. Now for clue #5: our kitchen currently looks like this…

… and our den looks like this:

Chaotic? Absolutely. Here’s John, blogging amid the mess — laptop, tools, and all. It’s cramped for now, but we’re confident the disruption will pay off. We’ve learned to embrace the temporary disorder: careful planning, strong work habits, and a willingness to live with dust for a short while are all part of the process.
Over the past few weeks we’ve been juggling daily life with the demands of the remodel. That’s meant shifting furniture, keeping a close eye on timelines, and adjusting expectations as surprises crop up (as they always do with older houses). Through it all, we’ve focused on three priorities: preserving what’s already great about the space, improving functionality, and updating the look in ways that feel timeless rather than trendy.
Seeing stacks of materials, exposed walls, and tools scattered around is unsettling at first, but each chaotic scene is a step closer to the finished space we’ve envisioned. We’ve found that staying organized during the mess — labeling boxes, photographing progress, and keeping an accessible “open essentials” box — helps reduce stress and makes life more manageable while work is underway.
We’ll share the full reveal on Monday, including before-and-after shots, the key decisions we made, and tips we learned along the way. In the meantime, we’d love to hear your guesses about what we’re tackling next. Is it a full kitchen overhaul? A reconfigured layout? A cozy den refresh with built-ins and new finishes? Leave your best guess and any renovation questions — we’ll answer them with the big reveal.
Thanks for following along during this noisy, dusty, exciting stretch. Projects like this are always a mix of chaos and satisfaction, but the payoff of a refreshed, more functional home is worth every unsettled day. Stay tuned for Monday’s post when we’ll show you the transformation in full.
