Silent Nights: Bright Holiday Decorating Ideas for a Cozy Home

Because many of you asked how my weekend went (thank you for the support and all the funny comments!), I’m happy to report I managed to dig the table out from under the holiday avalanche. Small victories count.

Of course, just as I was taking the first photo the boys leaped up on the sofa and smooshed the cushions I had just fluffed, but that’s life — and I’m fine with it.

I put the freshly washed slipcovers back on the sofa. I simply wash, dry, and put them back on — no ironing involved.

I swept the floors, vacuumed, dusted, washed the dishes, and cleaned the bathrooms.

I also hung a few things on the wall in my daughter’s freshly painted bedroom (hooray for the end of the “swine” phase).

Most of our Christmas shopping is done, which feels great.

And Jack even had his holiday bath — looking extra fluffy and festive.

Deadlines can be motivating, and they certainly helped this weekend.

After thinking it over, I decided not to return ornaments to the lower half of the tree.

That turned out to be a wise choice. Shortly after my last post, Jack casually walked over, lifted his leg, and peed on our Christmas tree — with the whole family watching. It was one of those moments you can’t invent.

I saw the whole thing happen, but was too shocked to take a photo. I definitely didn’t want to stage the scene for the camera afterwards.

His defense was that he was simply glad we’d finally provided indoor plumbing for him.

WHA?

Honestly, it was a believable mistake.

Moving on.
