This weekend I spent time puttering in the garden, savoring small moments that lift the spirit. Lately I’ve been using my Dwelling Well journal to stay focused on what nourishes my soul. The practice of writing down simple self-care rituals, making lists of small uplifting actions, and pausing to reflect has been grounding. Hopeful thoughts, gentle habits, and tiny rituals are what sustain me right now.

While I stood outside enjoying the sun on my face, I paused to listen—the neighbor’s little waterfall, the birds in the trees. Watching the birds reminded me how unaffected they seem by the noise of the world; they sing, tend their nests, and care for their young. Their simple rhythms feel like an invitation to slow down and return to basics.

I wandered the yard a while longer, taking stock of the plants about to burst into bloom. I’m especially excited for the lilacs, hydrangeas and peonies—those big, fragrant moments to look forward to. We also talked about which vegetables to plant this year. Planning small things like this gives me a steady sense of hope and anticipation.

Before coming back inside I cut a few fresh blooms. I should confess: it wasn’t all perfect—at one point I stepped in dog poo while reaching up to clip a pink camellia from a high branch. Still, I refused to let it ruin my day. I kicked off the messy shoe, carried the flowers into the kitchen, and arranged most of them in one of my favorite little pitchers. They looked so pretty on the counter. I also assembled a small bouquet for a simple spring bunny centerpiece, which brightened the table.
Puttering in the garden was, you might say, rather theuraPOOtic. Even with the minor mishap, time outdoors always feeds my soul.

What small thing could you do for your own self-care today? Even a few minutes outside, a short walk, or arranging a handful of blooms can make a meaningful difference.
