Seattle Queen Anne Drive By - The Inspired Room

hile I was on a short working getaway last week, my daughter Courtney and I found a lull between events and decided to drive through one of our favorite Seattle neighborhoods, Queen Anne. It’s a lovely community filled with beautiful homes. Many houses sit on hills with views of the Space Needle or the water, so it’s no surprise that the architecture is often spectacular.

I’m fond of the unpretentious picket fence on this house.

Some of the homes are stately, others are cozy and charming. On a sunny day Queen Anne is a delightful neighborhood to walk through. This time, though, we were pressed for time and opted for a true drive-by, enjoying the curbside views from the car. There are so many lovely properties that I wish I could have stayed longer to take more photos — next time I’ll sneak in a few close-ups. You know I love getting the details up close.

Even from the car you can tell how gorgeous many of the houses are. We kept stopping to admire them and, yes, to quietly sigh. I wouldn’t be upset to live in any of these homes, but at their price tags I know it’s unlikely — unless we all chip in together.

Palm trees aren’t common in the Pacific Northwest, so seeing them in a front yard gives a slightly tropical feel — even though we’re still firmly in Seattle.

This time of year the yards are especially pretty; many homes have thoughtfully maintained landscaping that adds charm and curb appeal.

This house has long been one of my favorites; I may have featured it in a previous drive-by. Someday I hope the owners will invite me in so I don’t have to admire it only from outside the gate.

Do you slow down for charming houses in your neighborhood? If you enjoy snapping drive-by photos, feel free to share them on Home Love Stories — I’d love to see where you live and what catches your eye.
