One of the design choices we made during our kitchen remodel was to install a cabinet-front dishwasher, also known as a panel-ready dishwasher. These models are built to accept a matching cabinet panel so the appliance blends seamlessly with surrounding cabinetry.
I wanted a panel-ready dishwasher to create a streamlined, cohesive look in the kitchen. It adds balance and symmetry beside the farmhouse sink and keeps the visual flow of the cabinetry uninterrupted.
Many cabinet makers offer matching dishwasher panels as an option. If you’re planning a remodel and like this look, ask your cabinet and appliance suppliers about panel-ready models and matching panels so they can be coordinated during the design and installation process.
Our dishwasher is KitchenAid; I’ve written about how we chose our kitchen appliances and the selection process we followed.
We added a long bar pull to the dishwasher panel that matches the rest of our cabinet hardware. Our contractor attached the pull to the panel so it looks like a regular drawer or cabinet front. The handle is practical for opening the dishwasher and doubles as a convenient towel bar.
