Welcome to my Fifth Annual Fall Nesting series!

{Fall Front Porch Decorating}

I’m so glad you’re here.

It’s hard to believe this is my fifth annual series, but if I’m going to keep a tradition, Fall and nesting are perfect subjects—both inspire me more than almost anything else when it comes to the home.

Over the past year I’ve been slowly reworking our house, reorganizing and redecorating nearly every corner. It’s been an intense season of nesting, both large projects and tiny changes. Maybe I should call it 365 Days of Nesting, because one month just wouldn’t cover it. Still, it’s been a creative, energizing process.

This nesting has been surprisingly restorative. Walking through a home that functions well and reflects your tastes brings a sense of peace and order that changes daily life. It’s not only that the house looks better—though that helps—it’s the calm and creative inspiration it gives me each day.

I love a home that feels both peaceful and inspiring, a place that rejuvenates us and supports the life we live. The last few years have been full of intense schedules: starting a church, growing a business, moving, and other demanding seasons that were more draining than I admitted. I needed time to focus on home again, so I turned down travel and speaking opportunities to create space for this.

I considered writing about the past few years as an introduction to Fall Nesting, but my daughter Courtney—an interior design major—already put much of what I was feeling into words so beautifully. I’ll let her perspective on the meaning of creating a home speak for those thoughts.

Right now we feel blessed and at peace in this season. After several years of heavy commitments and transitions, it’s wonderful to be in a phase where we can update our home and get things in order so we’re ready for the year ahead.

I’ll continue sharing projects I’m working on throughout the month. I’m still very much in nesting mode and excited to show how everything is coming together. With a full year of projects and my usual Fall Nesting energy, there is a lot to share.

The goal of my Fall Nesting series is to inspire fall decorating ideas while also encouraging ways to savor the season and find contentment in the home and stage of life you’re in. We may all be in autumn outdoors, but we’re also each in different seasons of life at home.

If you’ve followed the blog long enough you may remember seasons we’ve been through: a year without steady work, growing a business, a lengthy house sale, moving to a new state, serious health scares, time spent launching a church, bringing home a lively puppy named Jack, and now a phase of focused nesting. Each season required different approaches to creating comfort and contentment at home.

Circumstances or houses may never be perfect, but attitude and intentionality about making a comfortable home, whatever season you’re in, matter most.

Whether we’re making a list of “20 Little Things I Love About Fall” (I hope you’ll join the link-up on Monday night at 7PM PST), creating a simple fall centerpiece for the table, crafting a wreath for the door, or establishing new housekeeping routines, the series is about finding joy and contentment in your current home and season.

This series will touch on fall nesting in entryways, kitchens and pantries, family rooms, dining areas, bedrooms, and more. I plan to share quick fall ideas, a few giveaways, and lots of updates on my own projects. And yes, Jack will probably have a few things to show you too. There’s plenty of fall and nesting happening here!

I hope you’ll share your seasonal stories and ideas in the comments so we can connect during the series. Participating in the link-up parties is a great way for me to visit your homes and blogs—Fall Nesting is more fun when it’s shared with others.

Thanks for following along with this series!

See you soon to link up your “20 Little Things I Love About Fall” lists.
