The appliances were provided in partnership with KitchenAid
When we began planning our kitchen remodel, excitement and overwhelm went hand in hand. Remodels require many decisions—paint, floors, hardware—but the choices that shape how the kitchen functions were most important to me. A well-designed layout and the right appliances can make daily life easier and more enjoyable.
One of the things I anticipated most was getting brand-new appliances. It had been years since we had updated our stove or refrigerator, so that upgrade felt like a highlight. Because our kitchen footprint required precise planning, every appliance needed to be the right size and have features that fit our workflow. After researching many options, we chose KitchenAid for its design, features, and reliable performance.
We’ve now used our KitchenAid appliances for several months and are very happy with how they perform and look. Below I’ll share how we selected each major appliance and which features have proven especially useful.
First, let’s look at the refrigerator.

22 cu. ft. 36-inch Width Counter-Depth French Door Refrigerator with Interior Dispense
We kept the existing exterior door opening and pantry location, so a counter-depth French door refrigerator was the best fit for both function and style. This KitchenAid counter-depth model matched our space perfectly. It fits flush with the cabinetry, provides great storage organization, and keeps the kitchen feeling open.

The double doors and lower freezer offer plenty of room and glide open smoothly without hitting cabinets. The doors stop automatically when fully extended, which is a helpful small detail for a compact kitchen.

Because our home includes a Dutch door nearby, I planned how doors would operate together. In smaller or older homes you have to choose design compromises; for us it’s a minor inconvenience to close one door briefly to open another, and overall the layout feels cohesive.

This model is 22 cubic feet, 36 inches wide and 72 inches tall—slightly taller than many counter-depth fridges. The interior layout is the reason I prefer counter-depth: shallower depth with well-thought shelving keeps items visible and accessible so things don’t get lost in the back. The pull-out snack drawer is an excellent organizational feature. Overall, I love everything about this refrigerator.

The handles have a professional feel and a textured finish that resists fingerprints and slipping. The small colored caps on the handle ends add a charming detail, and they’re interchangeable if you prefer a different color.

The freezer drawer and internal organization make it easy to keep everything tidy. Because we centered the refrigerator on the wall during the remodel, the result is both more functional and more symmetrical, which helps a small kitchen feel calm and uncluttered.

Next we chose our range. We considered electric to avoid running a gas line, but discovered the previous owner had already installed a gas line in the ideal spot—an unexpected win. That made choosing a dual-fuel, commercial-style range an easy decision.

We selected a 30″ KitchenAid 4-Burner Dual Fuel Freestanding Range, Commercial Style.
This dual-fuel model uses gas for the cooktop and electric convection for the oven, giving us precise stovetop control and reliable baking performance. The 30-inch size allowed for counter space on both sides, optimizing the wall for a functional cooking zone. The cooktop easily accommodates four pots or pans at once, and the design is surprisingly easy to clean.

We also appreciated the range’s tactile, chunky knobs and industrial styling—they add texture and character to the kitchen while being practical to use. The oven controls are accessible via a touch pad, making timers and settings straightforward to manage.

Because we installed a gas cooktop, proper ventilation was essential. We chose a powerful under-cabinet ventilation hood mounted beneath a custom wood-framed cabinet. The hood is 36 inches wide so it effectively captures steam and fumes and vents them through the roof to the exterior, keeping the kitchen air clean.

KitchenAid 46 dBA Dishwasher with ProScrub Option
For the dishwasher, we wanted a seamless look that would not interrupt our run of cabinetry. A panel-ready dishwasher that accepts a custom cabinet panel was the solution. The dishwasher we chose has top-mounted controls, so settings are hidden when the door is closed but visible when opened. Our cabinet maker supplied a panel that fit perfectly and we added a handle to match the surrounding hardware for a cohesive finish.

I particularly like the pullout top rack for long or flat items like spatulas and slim utensils. It frees up space in the lower utensil compartments and is very convenient. The dishwasher is remarkably quiet and cleans thoroughly.

Having a panel-ready dishwasher helped maintain a continuous cabinetry look and created symmetry around the sink area. Overall, the integrated aesthetic and reliable performance have been exactly what we wanted.
After several months of daily use, we couldn’t be happier with our KitchenAid appliances.
