How to Replace and Upgrade Furniture Hardware Quickly

Changing out drawer and door pulls may sound like a small detail, but it’s one of the quickest, most affordable ways to refresh furniture and update a room’s look. We wanted to add a little visual interest to our living room console table near the door, so we swapped the old hardware for a bolder option:

We chose graphic black-and-white pulls from Anthropologie to give the console a little attitude:

Removing the old knobs took only about 30 seconds per drawer with a screwdriver, and installing the new knobs was just as easy — they snapped into place quickly.

At around $8 each, these knobs were a modest investment that made a big visual impact. They transformed an affordable $99 Target console into a more distinctive piece, and the black-and-white pattern ties in nicely with our gallery wall.

If you want to update furniture without repainting or refinishing, swapping out the hardware is a fast, inexpensive way to get a fresh look. New knobs and pulls can dramatically change the character of a piece with very little effort.
