Fall Blogger Home Tours - Simple Fall Decorating Ideas

HHello, my fall-loving friends! Welcome—I’m so happy you stopped by for a little tour today. I’m excited to be part of the Finding Fall Home Tour with twenty bloggers sharing their seasonal spaces. If you arrived from Laura’s blog, welcome!

If you were standing at my door, I’d swing it open and greet you with a hug… and two very enthusiastic dogs. Our Labradoodle Lily would be waiting on the stairs (muddy feet and all) and would hurry to the door to say hello. Jack, our Goldendoodle, would be racing around the corner, leaping and sliding on the wood floor trying to get to you first. They’re a joyful, noisy welcome, but once the excitement settles, you’d feel right at home.

Everything about fall makes me happy. We live near Seattle on a peninsula in the Puget Sound, and while winters can be gray, early fall here is often perfect—crisp, comfortable, and mild. I look forward to September and October all year long. Even rainy days have their charm: they invite cozy nesting and quiet indoor time.

Early autumn is my favorite time to savor small changes that make the house feel cozier.

My fall decorating is simple rather than crafty—subtle layers that add warmth. I pull out blankets, pillows, rugs, candles, and textured accents. I swap in seasonal books and bring in a few natural touches like snipped branches from the yard for the mantel. These small shifts create a softer, cozier feeling throughout the house.

It doesn’t take much to move from summer to fall. I savor the details, adding layers as the season deepens. A few branches, a stack of warm throws, and soft lighting transform a room. I enjoy the slow transition and the way each addition enhances the feeling of home.

Soon I’ll be lighting the fireplace and spending cool evenings curled up with a book or coffee. Fall is a season of comfort—a time when our home becomes a refuge and a place to slow down.

My daughters and I enjoy setting the table and lighting candles—candles are one of my favorite touches from fall through spring. They add atmosphere and a soft glow that instantly warms a room.

I don’t feel compelled to use only traditional fall colors, but I do like small touches of reds, oranges, and greens. Those hues bring a festive, cozy mood to my neutral palette, which easily accommodates seasonal accents.

Fall also motivates me to cook and bake more. You’ll find me in the kitchen often, filling the house with the smell of pumpkin cookies and warm spices.

This season brings routines: my son returns to school, and our command center becomes essential for keeping track of papers, schedules, and appointments. A little organization helps the household flow smoothly during the busy months.

I also love making the bedroom extra cozy—extra pillows, soft blankets, and a fluffy comforter create a restful nest. Of course, the dogs believe they are part of that plan and try to claim the bed for themselves. Their faces usually win me over.

The Inspired Room Love Is Patient Art and Pillow Basket

On Instagram I was asked where I store regular bed pillows in the morning. I keep them in a lidded basket—clean and off the floor—and use it for decorative pillows in the evening as well. It’s an easy, practical solution that keeps the room tidy.

Cozy Fall Family Room Sectional The Inspired Room

Our coziest fall hangout is the upstairs media room—the only room with a TV. A sectional makes this small space warm and inviting, perfect for family movie nights. Even though I spend a lot of time writing, we try to watch something together each week and enjoy this comfortable corner of the house.
