Who’s excited about decorating a fall porch? I know it still feels like summer, but if you want a seasonal doormat, now is the time to order. I love summer in the Pacific Northwest and don’t want it to end, but I also look forward to what comes next—FALL—and to sharing my annual Fall Nesting Series with you. After 13 years of blogging I’m still just as thrilled about this series as the very first time.
In the earlier days of blogging I felt like the only one who truly adored fall. Starting a fall series in September used to surprise people—“too early,” they’d say. These days, the conversation about fall starts even earlier, sometimes by August. Trends change, but my approach hasn’t: I’m a believer in savoring the season you’re in rather than rushing ahead.
My decorating philosophy is to let the seasons unfold gradually in the home, just as they do outside. There’s real value in that slow progression. When we don’t rush, we notice the small changes—the textures, colors, and natural elements—that signal a new season. Those subtle shifts create a cozy, layered feeling that develops over time, rather than an abrupt, overnight transformation.
You won’t find an all-out, instantaneous seasonal swap in my decor. Instead, expect a gentle transition: lightweight summer linens giving way to warmer textures, pops of autumnal color introduced one layer at a time, and small rituals that shift as the days grow crisper. Those tiny layers of change are what make the season feel lived in and loved.
