DIY Mason Jar Snow Globes: Step-by-Step Guide for Winter Decor

Mason Jar Snow Globes - The Inspired Room Christmas House Tour

Here’s a simple and charming Christmas decorating idea featured in my recent Christmas house tour. Several readers asked how I made these mason jar snow globes, so below I’ve outlined the easy steps and options to create your own.

For the antique blue mason jar (I found mine at a local secondhand store), I added a small amount of artificial snow to the bottom of the jar and placed a miniature bottle brush tree inside. If you won’t be shaking the jar, there’s no need to glue the tree down. If you do want the snow to move when shaken, secure the tree to the lid with a dab of hot glue before assembling.

For a clear mason jar snow globe, glue the little tree to the inside of the lid, screw the lid back on, and set the jar upside down so the scene sits at the top like a traditional snow globe. Add artificial snow into the jar while it’s upright before attaching the lid to create the falling-snow effect when flipped.

You can personalize these jars easily: tuck in tiny figurines (we used a small fox in a previous project), combine several small trees for a forest look, or vary the snow amount to change the scene’s feel. Use different jar colors or sizes for variety.

To give your mason jar globe a little elevation and presence, set it on a chunky candlestick or pedestal. This simple display idea looks handmade and festive, and it’s quick to assemble—easy, affordable, and effective.
