When we moved into this house, we imagined a built-in window seat beneath the back window of our living room. The view of the mountains, water and sunsets was one of the home’s biggest charms, so creating a comfortable spot to sit and enjoy it felt natural.
We had so many other projects on our list that built-ins got postponed indefinitely. Years later, that larger project is still on the back burner (you can see a roundup of the home projects we’ve completed in the past).
Eventually we decided to get a rattan daybed for this corner. It provides the same relaxed feel as a built-in seat, but we could enjoy it right away without a long renovation.

This daybed has become an extra spot for guests, often used by nieces and nephews when they visit.
It’s also a cozy place to curl up with a book, get work done, or simply watch the sunset.
When we need extra seating on the couch, the daybed works perfectly — we just add a few pillows behind us.
Our dogs, in particular, have adopted it as their favorite spot. They seem convinced the bed was intended for their comfort, and they use it more than anyone else in the family.

A daybed is particularly practical in a home with pets because it’s easy to keep clean. Like a bed, you can use removable sheets and blankets that go straight into the wash.
I’ve thought about moving the daybed to another room, but I always feel guilty at the idea because the dogs love it so much.
Most people might not consider a daybed for their main living room, but if you have the space, it can suit a variety of styles and rooms. It’s versatile, comfortable, and can function as seating, a guest bed, or a relaxing nook.
For us, the daybed has become the best spot in the house.
Do you have a piece of furniture you’d hate to move because someone in your household loves it so much?
