If you’re new here, I’m Melissa. I’ve been blogging at The Inspired Room since 2007 and have written several books about home and living. Lately I’ve been buried in edits for two upcoming books, but nothing makes me happier than autumn, so it’s a joy to share this season with you.
Today’s tour covers my main rooms and gives a feel for our modest white brick house in Seattle. We moved in three years ago and have gradually made it our own—painting inside and out, remodeling the kitchen, adding Dutch doors, installing shutters and blinds, updating light fixtures and some flooring, and doing a fair bit of work outdoors. If you want to see our new outdoor deck, check the source I’ve listed below.
We share our home with two lively pups, Jack and Lily, so you might catch them in a few photos. They always enjoy when guests arrive.

About eleven years ago I began an annual Fall Nesting series on the blog. My approach is simple: add cozy textures, welcome the season’s rituals, and let inspiration guide small changes rather than overdoing decorations. I did pick up a few pumpkins and gourds at Trader Joe’s for the porch, but mostly I favor subtle touches that invite a comfortable, lived-in feel.
Make yourself at home and enjoy the tour. I’ve included links to sources throughout the post and at the end. If you have questions or want to say hello, please leave a comment—I love hearing from readers.
Now I’ll step aside so you can continue the tour. Enjoy!
