I recently wrote that we’ve decided to make this house our long-term home and continue putting down deeper roots. That choice brings us a sense of calm. Of course, life can bring change—needs and desires evolve—so nothing is set in stone, and I’m comfortable with that uncertainty.
Knowing, though, that our current plan is to stay here (especially as we head into a season when we’ll become empty nesters this September) has made dreaming about the house and upcoming projects more enjoyable. Planning feels purposeful when you know the changes will serve our family.
For me, nesting is about more than styling for photos—it’s about shaping a home that supports the way we live. When I invest emotionally in our living space, any updates or projects feel meaningful because they enhance our everyday life.
This weekend my husband and I got inspired and rearranged some furniture. Our antique Chinoiserie cabinet, which has moved in and out of the living room over the years, is back in place. We ordered new artwork to hang above it, and once it arrives I’ll share how the cabinet will be used and how the arrangement comes together.

While we were puttering around the living room, ideas started bubbling up. We noticed an underused corner and began brainstorming ways to make it more functional and welcoming.
The concept we’ve landed on is simple, budget-friendly, and straightforward to execute. Most importantly, it will make our family happier and more comfortable in the space.
I’ll share the details tomorrow—stay tuned to see what we have planned.
