Update: my new kitchen with a covered range hood!
If you enjoy cooking, use a gas range, or simply dislike the smell of food lingering through your home, a quality range hood is a wonderful addition. In both of our last two kitchen remodels I installed new hoods, and each time they were a major improvement in function and style.
Before you commit to a hood, take time to research your options. You want a ventilation system that complements your kitchen design but also provides adequate power for your range. There are helpful resources available that explain ventilation requirements and installation choices. When in doubt, consult a knowledgeable contractor — they can save time and avoid mistakes.
Style matters nearly as much as performance when designing a kitchen. I enjoy the creative part of remodeling and began collecting ideas for this kitchen as soon as we bought the house. One look that kept catching my eye was the covered range hood — a clean, tailored option that adds architectural interest and hides the mechanics for a softer, finished look.
Because I’ve never had a covered hood before, it’s been fun to gather inspiration and imagine how one might work in our space. I haven’t finalized the exact design yet, but the images below illustrate several stylish and practical approaches to covered range hoods that may spark ideas for your project.
