We recently gave our small powder room a gentle refresh—just paint and a few new accessories rather than a full renovation. This wasn’t a dramatic “blogger makeover” involving power tools; it was a modest update done on a tight budget. I had once hoped to replace the tile and install a pedestal sink, but that project had to wait. Budget constraints mean the big changes will come later.
So, no new sink for now.
No new faucet.
No new light fixtures—at least not yet.
No wood ceiling for the time being.
I waited four years for a more charming kitchen, so I can wait a bit longer to finish the bathrooms. In the meantime, I like to make the most of what we already have. A fresh coat of paint and a handful of well-chosen accessories have given the powder room a brighter, cottage-inspired look that feels welcoming for guests.
Small updates can make a surprisingly big difference. Paint and accessories are affordable and effective, especially when you shop secondhand or explore flea markets. I’ve been finding some delightful pieces locally that add character without breaking the bank.
I’ll share the full before-and-after of this powder room (including the two makeovers it has had since we moved in) once my new bath rug arrives later this week.

Dresser repurposed as a cottage bathroom vanity

Charming tile, marble counter, subway tile and sea-green glass knobs — lovely touches.
Do you love cottage-style bathrooms as much as I do?
I truly adore a charming bathroom.
On a side note about design blogs and site updates: if you visit The Inspired Room directly (rather than reading via email) you may notice some temporary layout issues. Pages, fonts or sidebars might look off while we tidy things up. We’re working to make navigation easier and the site more visually pleasing for spring. I’ll post more details soon to help you find content more quickly.
