I don’t know what it is—maybe a touch of spring fever—but lately I’ve been trying to look at my home with fresh eyes.
This post does include a roundup of great lighting options, but the “new light” I’ve been thinking about isn’t always about buying a lamp.
Have you ever felt stuck, as if you can’t make progress on improving your space? I’ve asked that question here before. The feeling of being stuck comes for many reasons.
Sometimes it follows a busy season when I haven’t had time for creativity or home projects. Other times the ideas just don’t come easily, and I feel creatively blocked.
Practical limits like budgets or resources can stall progress. And sometimes there’s no clear reason at all—I simply lose motivation.
Questions about next steps can also create hesitation. Wondering whether we’ll stay in our current house or move to another can keep me from investing energy in change. And comparing my home to what others have—especially online—can make me feel overwhelmed and inadequate.
When I start believing my home isn’t good enough, analysis and comparison freeze me instead of inspiring me.

Often I realize that being “stuck” can be a helpful pause. Instead of forcing changes, it may be a season to settle in and appreciate what I already have.
After a period of stillness—sometimes including a break from social media—I begin to notice my home in a familiar, kinder light.
I stop viewing my space through the lens of what others have or what I lack. Instead, I see what truly matters to me: comfort, good lighting, meaningful belongings, and spaces that invite connection.
Once I change that perspective, creativity returns. Small ideas emerge and I feel inspired to shape our home into a place we love living in—not a showplace, but a welcoming sanctuary for family and friends.
Soon I’m turning on lamps, arranging cozy corners, and enjoying simple changes that make our home more inviting.
How could you see your home in a new light?

Here are a few practical ways to change how you experience your home without major expense:
- Turn on small lamps in the evening to create warmth and layered lighting.
- Edit by removing a few items to let favorite pieces breathe and stand out.
- Move a chair or plant to a new spot to create a fresh view or better flow.
- Set a daily habit—make the bed, light a candle, arrange fresh flowers—to reset the room’s tone.
- Limit social scrolling for a few days and focus on what you already own and enjoy.
These small actions often lead to bigger ideas. When you stop comparing and start noticing the things that matter most, your home naturally becomes more welcoming and true to your life.
