Inside The Inspired Room: Book Cover Reveal & Behind-the-Scenes

The Inspired Room - New Book by New York Times Best Selling Author Melissa Michaels - Releasing November First

Today I’m thrilled to officially reveal the cover for my new book, The Inspired Room.

I’ve been hard at work behind the scenes on my second book, The Inspired Room, which releases on November 1. It’s finally finished! My first book, Love The Home You Have, was a New York Times bestseller and shared encouragement and practical ideas for loving the home you live in. That book introduced the philosophy behind this community, and The Inspired Room builds on that with fresh inspiration and hands-on decorating advice.

The Inspired Room Book Behind the Scenes Inside

This new book focuses on decorating your home with plentiful inspiration and practical, affordable tips to create a space you’ll love. It features my own home in full-color photographs taken by my daughter Courtney and me. Sharing our photos felt both exciting and a little nerve-wracking, but it was also a joyful part of the project. The book also includes delightful hand-drawn art by Nicole Johnson, the same talented artist who added the charming illustrations to Love The Home You Have. The overall design is playful and welcoming, and I can’t wait to share it with you.

Now that the book is complete and off to the printer, I’m feeling a huge sense of relief and gratitude. My daughters were a wonderful part of this adventure, and the team at Harvest House and Faceout Studio helped shape my words and photos into something very special.

Designing a book cover is a collaborative process. I had a clear vision for this cover and wanted it to feel different from typical design or coffee table books. Rather than a simple photo, I wanted something that felt intimate and special—designed for kindred spirits who love home as much as I do.

I imagined a book you’d want to pick up and hold, one that makes you smile as you dream about your home. The cover needed to be fresh, fun, whimsical and friendly, with texture, lively colors and a pattern that evokes life and warmth. To me, a home is not a showroom but a place for living—where creativity, joy and love are woven into everyday moments.

When I saw this cover design, I knew it was the one. I especially love the coppery leaves, which will actually be copper leaf on the printed cover—they shimmer and add a subtle, beautiful detail that feels just right.

Although the book features my home, words and photos, it’s written for you. It’s not meant to impress but to inspire and encourage. Rather than showcasing perfectly styled rooms, it invites you into my imperfect, always-evolving home. The ideas inside are practical and attainable—focused on creating a real-life home on a reasonable budget, using what you have and collecting pieces over time.

Whether you already love your home or are just beginning to make it your own, this book is for anyone who values a home that reflects life, comfort and contentment. An authentic home is created one day at a time, starting right where you are.

Best of all, The Inspired Room is a high-quality, large-format, 208-page full-color photo book that remains surprisingly affordable. Priced at $26.95, it’s accessible compared with many similar coffee table books, and it makes a lovely gift for weddings, birthdays, housewarmings or the holidays. Pre-ordering ensures you’ll have a copy when it releases in November.

I look forward to sharing more about the writing and photo process. My girls and I enjoyed collaborating on every step—visiting Harvest House, helping with layout decisions, and working alongside a wonderful team to bring this book to life. It was created with a lot of love, laughter, late nights and early mornings fueled by coffee.

I’ll be attending the Haven Conference in Atlanta next week, where Marian (Miss Mustard Seed) and I will share stories and tips about writing and publishing books. If you’ll be there, please come to our session—I’d love to meet you.

Thank you for your encouragement and support throughout this journey. I’m grateful to everyone who has cheered us on.
