Thank you all for the enthusiasm about my kitchen design board. Your responses make sharing this project so enjoyable. I was thrilled to see the cabinets and the sink finally arrive — it feels like a major step forward. This is a quick progress update to let you know the cabinets are here; I’ll share the full reveal once everything is complete.
Just a reminder: our plan is to have the walls and ceiling painted white beadboard-style wood. What you see now are temporary blue plaster walls and the unfinished wood ceiling — those surfaces will be finished and brightened once painting begins.

We couldn’t resist playing around a bit once the contractor left for the day. Courtney and I carried in dish towels and accessories, held up hardware, and took pictures because we were excited to see it coming together. I found the gray striped towels at Trader Joe’s, and the buffalo-check linens are a favorite pattern in our kitchen styling. The small wooden measuring spoons we used for the photos add a warm, lived-in touch to the space.
During unpacking we discovered that the sink had a crack in the corner from shipping, so it wasn’t fully installed. That was disappointing, but the contractor used the damaged sink to build the cabinet frame so we could get a sense of scale and placement. We taped the cracked porcelain for safety after the contractor accidentally cut his hand on the edge; he’s all right, thankfully. We’re now waiting for the replacement sink to arrive. Meanwhile, a template for the countertops will be made on Friday and cabinet hardware will be installed at that time. The countertop installation is expected to follow about a week later.

It’s been lovely to see the details come together this week. I always worry that a choice might not translate from my idea into the finished room, or that something won’t feel quite right in real life. So far everything feels bright, efficient, and true to the vision I had — maybe even better than I imagined. It’s a big relief and very encouraging to see the progress.
If you’ve ever remodeled or built a house, I’d love to hear if you’ve ever styled or staged a room before the project was fully finished. It feels indulgent but also fun to imagine the final look while work is still underway.
