I like to make everyday moments a little more enjoyable. Since I make coffee every morning, this pretty kettle adds a bit of joy to my routine. Lately I’ve been making a single cup using the pour-over method, and it’s a simple, delicious way to enjoy coffee when I’m just brewing for myself.
Now that I’m an empty nester, I usually make coffee for one. The pour-over method is quick, easy, and makes a great cup. I still miss making coffee with my kids each morning, so making the ritual lovely feels especially important.
If you want to see how it’s done, I shared a short demonstration in my Instagram story highlights. The technique is straightforward and takes only a few minutes.
Supplies I use:

I use a gooseneck kettle to heat the water for pour-over coffee. It’s useful for precise pouring and also works as a decorative piece, for watering plants, or for making tea.

This is the coffee cone I use to hold the filter.
These are the paper filters I use.
This is the coffee I prefer, ground to a medium coarse consistency.

This is my coffee grinder, which I use when I want the freshest flavor from whole beans.
Simple pour-over instructions:
1. Bring water to a boil in the gooseneck kettle.
2. Place a filter in the cone and pour a little hot water through it while the cone sits over your mug; discard that water from the cup (this pre-wets the filter and warms the mug).
3. Add ground coffee to the filter.
4. Pour a small amount of hot water over the grounds to wet them evenly and let it bloom for about 30 seconds.
5. Slowly continue pouring water until you reach the desired volume of coffee in the cup.
6. Remove the cone, discard the grounds, and enjoy your cup.
Enjoy!

I also enjoy making coffee with a stainless stovetop espresso maker when I want several cups at once. That method makes a richer brew and is a fun alternative for guests or when I’m in the mood for a stronger coffee.
I love my milk steamer/frother for making lattes and frothed milk drinks, hot or cold. It’s a handy tool for adding a café-style touch at home.
