I was sitting by the fire last evening, pretending I had nothing to do — you know those moments when you’re swamped but try to take a mental break by acting like you have free time? I really needed to get work done, yet somehow I found myself browsing Pinterest. Sometimes it’s part of the job, but last night it felt like pure procrastination. Or so I thought.

Then I came across a beautiful waterfront home photographed by Trent Bell and designed by Justene Spaulding of JS Interiors. There are countless homes on Pinterest, but every so often one stands out — a project with a distinctive mix of character and thoughtful design. This house was one of those finds.

The rooms are tastefully layered, combining rustic, traditional, coastal, and cottage influences. The kitchen and living area feature a cohesive palette that carries up to the ceilings: soft teals and sea-glass greens paired with varied wood tones, crisp white trim, and warm brass fixtures. The result feels fresh and coastal, yet inviting and comfortably lived-in — a favorite balance.

I particularly love the layered rug and the bench with barley-twist legs — small details that bring personality and charm to the bedroom.

The bathroom showcases thoughtful cabinetry, classic lighting, detailed millwork, and a freestanding tub that all combine to feel both elegant and comfortable. These design choices create a serene, cottage-inspired retreat.

Planked walls run through the home, adding texture and a handcrafted quality that complements the overall aesthetic. I admit I’m a little obsessed with plank detailing — I’d love to incorporate it extensively in my own home someday.

The floors display a rich variety of textures and finishes that ground the spaces and add visual warmth. Together with the layered textiles and classic architectural elements, the home feels curated yet welcoming.
One perk of working in an industry you love is constant inspiration — even when you’re trying to avoid work, great design can pull you back into creative thinking. If you enjoy curated home inspiration, you can follow my design discoveries on Pinterest.
Happy Monday, house-loving friends. Do you find yourself daydreaming on Pinterest when you should be working, too?
