Perfection Not Required: How to Move Forward Without Pressure

It doesn't have to be perfect but this is ridiculous

April 2014

I know a house doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.

We actually embrace imperfection pretty well in our home.

Sometimes my life at home is just plain ridiculous.

When we brought our new puppy home the other day, my daughter remarked that we seem to thrive on a little chaos.

And honestly, I’m fine with that — most of the time.

You’ve probably noticed that about me.

That kind of delightful chaos hasn’t changed much since the early days of blogging.

(Except now all the animals have come to life.)

In different seasons or during big life changes, chaos has a way of moving in.

Sometimes imperfection is invited; other times it barges in unexpectedly.

Imperfect Home Meaningful Life

I believe welcoming imperfection is part of living a full, meaningful life.

If you love a pretty, orderly home, it’s easy to forget that absolute perfection isn’t attainable or even desirable for most of us.

Sometimes we need reassurance or inspiration to remember what matters most.

That’s one reason I love blogging and this community.

We’re kindred spirits who encourage one another to create homes that feel right, not flawless.

Today my longtime blogging friend and fellow imperfect-home advocate Nester (Myquillyn) releases her lovely new book. I’m so excited for her — blogging is a journey, and seeing friends turn their blogs into books makes me proud and happy. The Nesting Place isn’t a typical decorating book. Nester mixes stories and personal experience to show how she learned to embrace imperfection in her home. If you’ve ever doubted that your place could be beautiful to you, this book offers encouragement and practical inspiration to stop making excuses and start creating the home you love.
