Home Goals 2019: Printable Worksheet and Instagram Template

Happy almost 2019, friends! Many of us set personal goals at the start of a new year, but do you set goals for your home? Before I look ahead, I always take a moment to look back with gratitude for the improvements—big and small—we’ve made so far. Reflecting helps me prioritize what matters most before making new plans.

Next, I consider what’s most important for our family. Are there improvements we should make this year to protect our house as an investment or to support the well-being of everyone who lives here? Thinking in terms of both maintenance and quality of life helps me create realistic, meaningful goals.

Each year I share a Home Goals worksheet to help think through and plan priorities. Project lists can feel overwhelming, so a simple worksheet helps me focus on the most important tasks. It’s also a great tool to save and revisit throughout the year to check progress and remind yourself of your intentions.

This year I created a Home Goals template to inspire your own planning.

If you use Instagram, you can save the template image and fill it out to share in your Instagram Stories. Upload the image to your story and type your answers on top. If you tag @theinspiredroom I’ll be able to see your responses. You’re welcome to post the blank template for others to use as well. If you mention it in a blog post, please link back here.

You can also find the template in my story highlights on my Instagram profile and screenshot it from there.

Home Goals and Home Purpose {printable worksheets}

As a first step in planning, I find it helpful to define the main purposes for your home. Think about what you want your home to help you accomplish this year—whether it’s a place for rest, a safe and nurturing environment for family, a welcoming space for gatherings, a place to pursue hobbies or run a small business, or a sanctuary from daily stress. Clarifying these purposes makes setting concrete goals much easier.

When you plan with purpose, your to-do list becomes a series of intentional choices rather than a collection of chores. Decide which projects will most directly support your home’s role in your life, then break those projects into manageable steps. Prioritize repairs and maintenance that protect your home’s value, and schedule creative or decorative projects that improve daily life.

Here are a few practical tips to get started:

  • List repairs or maintenance needs first—these protect your investment and prevent bigger issues later.
  • Choose one or two “joy” projects that will make daily life better, like updating a cozy corner or organizing a frequently used space.
  • Set realistic timelines—spread projects across the year so progress is steady and achievable.
  • Track progress in a visible place so the whole family can contribute and celebrate milestones.

Keeping goals simple and focused helps you make meaningful changes without feeling overwhelmed. Use the template to record priorities and revisit it quarterly to adjust plans as needed. A few intentional improvements each year add up to a home that supports your family and feels more peaceful and functional.
