I set the Easter table early last week just for fun and to get a feel for the room before hosting. Sometimes I like to set things up ahead of time so I can see what needs laundering, which linens and centerpieces work, and whether I need anything extra. Other times I wing it at the last minute—both approaches work well depending on the day.

I love mixing dishes, patterns, and colors. That’s one reason we included glass-front cabinets, open shelves, and small display nooks in our renovation: even with a modest home and limited storage, I enjoy seeing the pieces I’ve collected and using them for gatherings.

We may squeeze three more people around this table, so I’ll tweak the place settings. For larger holidays I plan to set up a second table—another reason we wanted a banquette: it frees floor space so we can add an extra table when family visits.

Last year we set an Easter table in the middle of construction, so I’m excited to have a finished dining area this year. You make the best of what you have—setting that table amid sawdust was memorable, but it’s special to now create holiday traditions in our completed space.
Are you hosting Easter this year?

I couldn’t resist this book planter; it’s sweet and practical with a drainage hole if you prefer to plant directly in it. It adds a playful, unexpected touch to the table.

The ceramic tiered egg is beautiful and functional—each section opens, so you can use the compartments for small gifts, snacks, or candies.
