House Beautiful
I’m in a yellow mood.
Maybe it’s because the weather was dark and rainy and I needed a little light. I’ve been craving a spot of sunshine indoors, so I gathered a few yellow decorating ideas to brighten my day. Even if you live where the sun shines often, indulge me for a moment while I soak in some sunny inspiration and share what I’m planning.

I also love the charm of a yellow house, even covered in snow — an image a friend once shared with me.

Yellow is already part of my home because it genuinely makes me happy.
I’m tempted to add even more yellow accents — mirrors, lamps, perhaps a painted wall or two.

I’m pretty sure I’m going to paint at least part of the upstairs yellow. I’ve been considering this for weeks. At first I planned to paint the lower floor a soft golden yellow, but as the home evolved I chose different paint colors after living with the spaces and seeing what felt right.
Now the upstairs seems to be calling for yellow. It just feels like the right decision for how I want the house to feel. It takes me time to understand how each space should look and, more importantly, how it should feel.
If I had hired a painter sooner, the whole house might already be finished. But moving slowly has been a benefit. Living in the rooms first allowed me to ponder what each space needed.
Taking my time has let the home evolve naturally for our family.
If I stay quiet long enough and don’t rush ahead, my house really does tell me what it needs, just like my furniture does. My upstairs kept nudging me toward yellow — so fine, yellow it is. I hear you, house. I hear you, chair. Yellow is on its way.
How about you?
Do you have yellow at your house?
