It’s time for an update on our galley kitchen remodel. For anyone who enjoys progress posts, this one shows the work in between stages. Early remodeling always looks worse before it gets better, so brace yourself — it’s a bit messy right now.
Contractors have been updating the electrical wiring, which is essential and exciting, but not pretty. The dust has been the worst part — despite efforts to seal the work area, dust has traveled through the house and settled in every room. It coats surfaces and shows up in the photos. Along with the dust, the house feels chaotic even though we’re trying to stay organized: boxes of light fixtures, a faucet and sink on the floor, pet gates to keep the dogs away from the construction zone, and even a garbage disposal resting on the mantel. Typical renovation life.
Beyond the mess and the stress of having workers in your home, the process is still very exciting. This remodel is a big transformation and we’re thrilled to be making these changes.

On a more inspiring note, we now have the initial framing for two new archways into the kitchen. Seeing the basic arch shape framed in makes it much easier to visualize the finished space. The final arches won’t have the small corner details you might notice in the framing — just the clean curve.
The arches have already changed how the rooms feel. Even though we couldn’t widen the doorways much because of the kitchen layout, the arches open up the view, make the rooms feel taller, and give a more welcoming, charming vibe.
There’s something inherently romantic about an arch. I can picture these openings turning the kitchen into a small, inviting destination that draws you in from adjoining rooms. They’ll add character and help the kitchen feel like a special, connected space.

Once cabinets and appliances are back in place, the room will function as a compact U-shaped galley kitchen. We’re adding character, extra storage, and new appliances while keeping the basic layout intact.

From the hall you’ll be able to look straight through one arch and see the new Dutch door in the kitchen, which I’m especially excited about. It will create a lovely sightline and a welcoming focal point.

We added some new framing to straighten out a section of wall that previously jutted in a few inches. This adjustment ensures the new range and cabinets will sit flush and line up neatly along the wall.

There’s also an unexpected design feature planned for this wall that I’m very excited about. It’s scheduled to be installed soon and I can’t wait to share it once it’s in place.
There’s more to come about finishes, materials, and design choices, so stay tuned for future updates. I’ll share details as they’re installed and finished.
Do you want to guess what the surprise feature will be?
Thanks again for following along. Hope you have a great weekend!
