One of my favorite parts of autumn is the anticipation of Christmas. Even though Thanksgiving hasn’t arrived, I love thinking ahead to the holiday—especially when there’s still time to plan and enjoy decorating at a relaxed pace.
Last year I kept my holiday decorating very simple, and it felt wonderful: no stress, minimal mess, and just enough touches to make the season feel special. I intend to keep things pretty simple again this year, but I’m tempted to add a little more—only a bit, not everything—because the thought of hauling out every box of decorations feels overwhelming.
I’m drawn to a restrained Christmas look that doesn’t depend on excess. Still, there’s something delightful about doing a few things that are a little different—adding a whimsical or magical detail, or a small touch of extra beauty that feels festive without being over the top.
I’ll share more of my plans and inspiration soon. I’ve already started a few small decorations. These photos are from last year’s tour—I enjoyed the process and the calm, simple touches that made the home feel cozy and seasonal.
Many bloggers are already decorating for sponsored holiday posts, but I’m decorating for my family and for the joy of the season. I’ll host another online Christmas house tour in December and you’ll be invited to take a look. I’m looking forward to savoring the season in meaningful ways.
PS. If you introduced yourself and shared a bit about where you live in the comments of the Home Sweet Home post, thank you—I loved reading your stories. It’s been a pleasure hearing from so many of you.
Is anyone else out there already decorating for Christmas? 🙂
