Ever since that weekend when tidying the family room turned into buying a new ottoman and rearranging the furniture, I’ve been making small changes in the space. Not big cleanups—just tweaks. When I mentioned the new tufted ottoman before, I said I’d rearranged the furniture but forgot to share the update. So come on in and see how the room is shaping up (and feel free to grab a pumpkin square on your way in).
First of all, I’m LOVING the sofa facing the fireplace. There’s something so welcoming and cozy about that layout. It’s how the family room was arranged when we first moved in, but at that time the kitchen was in a transitional “before” state and a sofa dividing the rooms didn’t work as well. Now the setup feels right—at least for now.
You might notice I still haven’t put a rug back in after removing ours. Normally a rug adds warmth for fall, but it’s also a place where a dog might get sick or test potty training. No rug means less cleanup, which I appreciate. So for now the floor stays bare—though that could change without warning.
The fiddle-leaf fig is still recovering and will return to the corner once it’s healthier.

I still adore the ottoman. It feels like the coziest spot in the room.

I always have a few Plush Pumpkins out this time of year—seasonal accents that add instant charm.

I added a couple of larger frames to the mantel so they make more of a statement. I slipped in artwork by talented friends like Jones Design Company and a drawing a kind reader made after we lost our 19-year-old pup, Winston, earlier this year.

Recently I fell for some small gold end tables while browsing a store. I didn’t have an obvious place for them, but by pairing two side by side they work well as a slim console table behind the sofa. They’re exactly what the space needed.
I love the way they finish the room.

Turn around and you can see into the kitchen. The cable-knit throw draped over the sofa is my favorite fall accessory—soft, cozy, and warm. There’s also a small update happening in the dining room beyond the kitchen that I hope to share soon.

If you’re curious about paint colors, the kitchen remodel, window treatments, or the gallery wall just out of view, I’ve documented those projects and sources elsewhere—feel free to ask if you want specific details.
The ottoman is from World Market. The trellis chair is from Pier One. The white sofa came from Pottery Barn via Craigslist.

Happy Fallifying!
