Bathroom Renovation Plan + Win a $100 Home Depot Gift Card

SI’ve always been drawn to old, charming houses — especially their kitchens and bathrooms. I adore vintage white porcelain sinks, pretty faucets, classic subway tile, plaster and wood walls, and interesting lighting and ceilings. It’s the details that make these rooms feel special.

That said, I’m learning to appreciate the pace and possibilities of a newer home. With a newer house you don’t have to rush into every project or uncover hidden wiring and aging plumbing. Those repairs in an old house were often more expensive and stressful than I expected, and honestly not fun to deal with.

No one really notices the beautiful plumbing hidden under the house that cost a fortune. Guests don’t ask to see the crawlspace or linger by an electrical panel. What people admire are the visible, finished touches — sinks, faucets, tile, and fresh paint. Those were always the parts of renovation I loved most.

I’m excited about the potential of my new house — once I get going, it’s going to be so much fun.

Here, we can focus right away on updates we enjoy seeing, as time and budget allow. That’s exactly my kind of project.

Although my main renovation plan for the year was simply to paint the interior, I recently had the chance to do a small bathroom makeover through Home Depot. That opportunity was the nudge my husband and I needed to take on a fun powder room refresh.

Yes, I recently painted that powder room on a whim with friends’ help, and the paint really improved the space. The updated vanity from that project will be passed along to someone who needs it.

Now I’m ready to start our first real room makeover in this house, introducing some classic details I love. Because the powder room is the smallest space, a thoughtful update can make a big impact and help set the tone for the rest of the home.

Home Depot is running a Renew and Redo Event this weekend, so I visited the store multiple times to explore options. I enjoyed walking the aisles and browsing online for vanities, faucets, and other choices. There are a lot of affordable, stylish options that make even modest updates feel special.

Small changes can have a big effect — new cabinet hardware, a faucet, fresh paint, or new tile can transform a bathroom. These updates are affordable and can be done gradually. I have two other bathrooms that will likely get simple refreshes this year, so I’ve been imagining what each might become.

For our powder room makeover we chose classic, timeless elements:

  • A white pedestal sink
  • A traditional-style faucet
  • White subway tile
  • Wood paneling and fresh paint

I can’t wait to make this little room feel more like home. I’ll begin the renovation after I return from Blissdom next week. It will be the first time my husband and I tackle more than just painting in this house, so it should be an adventure.
