Can you believe spring is only about 56 days away? January has felt endless, but with the month winding down I’m ready to emerge from a winter slow-down and start refreshing the house for the season ahead.
Here are the small decorating updates I made around the house this month.
Spring tulips and bunnies — This week I tucked spring tulips into my favorite bunny pitcher. It’s a vessel I use year-round, but the tulips and the bunny motif feel especially right for early spring and add an instant cheerful touch.

Winter greenery and spring flowers — A few months ago I added faux cedar topiaries to the planters on our bedroom deck, and I’ve been really pleased with them. I hadn’t stored the planters after fall as I usually do, and honestly I’m glad I didn’t. The faux topiaries bring year-round greenery without the upkeep real plants require, and they’re perfect for spots that are hard to maintain.
At first I bought the faux cedars to give the deck some life through late fall and early winter. Now I plan to keep them out longer because they look so good and are more economical than constantly replacing live plants. They’re also easy to move to the front porch where they won’t be bothered by deer.

On a recent stop at a garden center my mom and I found a sweet little spring plant, so I brought out the bunny planter to add a pop of color to the deck. Small, seasonal touches like that make the space feel fresh and welcoming.
January bedroom refresh — Each January I like to give our bedroom a small refresh. This month I swapped two pieces of furniture and added a few new textiles. As part of a recent project I was gifted gingham linen sheets and a linen quilt from a brand I already love. The sheets and quilt feel light and spring-like, and they immediately brighten the room.

Doesn’t my grandbaby Forrest look adorable on the bed? He’s a wonderful winter mood booster. One afternoon he didn’t want to nap, so we invited him into a little photoshoot — he enjoyed every minute. Having grandchildren feels like revisiting one of the most joyful chapters of life, and seeing him is an instant smile.

A place for everything — I shared my new wicker trunk last week and it inspired me to focus on organization. My theme for the year is “a place for everything and everything in its place,” and I’m using baskets and functional storage throughout the house to support that goal.

Stair basket — We also added a basket at the stair landing. We keep a baby gate at the bottom of the stairs to keep our puppy Finnegan from wandering when we can’t supervise him. Rather than tossing items on the steps, which had become a habit, we found a basket that hangs over the landing where it doesn’t block the walkway. The shape and size fit our narrow, curved landing perfectly and keeps things neater.

Refreshing the living room — I still feel a little unsettled without a couch in our living room, so I’ve been researching options and weighing what will work best for our family and space. I’ve narrowed down a few solutions and will share my plans soon.

What’s next for February and March?
Beyond the living room refresh, I have several smaller rooms and projects lined up that I’m excited to tackle. After years of renovations and settling in, it feels good to focus on the fun, detail-driven updates I enjoy most.
I also realized I haven’t yet shared the finished mudroom makeover on the blog since the renovation, so I’ll be posting a full reveal of that space next week.
