Refresh Your Home This Fall: 5 Stylish Ways to Reinvigorate Your Space

I couldn’t be more excited about the start of fall. The weather was gorgeous in Seattle yesterday, and the leaves are already beginning to turn. Home is where my heart is, so here are five favorite fall home refresh tips to bring new life to your rooms.

1. Design a welcoming area for people to gather.

Refresh your dining table to create a warm, inviting gathering spot. A welcoming dining area encourages meaningful conversations and memorable meals with friends and family.

A simple table runner or placemats, paired with a bowl or lantern as a centerpiece, instantly makes the table feel more hospitable.

I found my table runner last spring and the lanterns more recently. Stores like World Market have many approachable pieces for setting a table and making it feel cozy and seasonal.

2. Invite in warmth with lamps and lanterns.

When evenings grow chillier, soft lighting makes a space feel cozy and intimate. Keep candles, lamps and lanterns on hand so you can quickly warm up a room with light.

3. Soften every space with layers.

Layering textiles is one of the easiest ways to create a cozy fall atmosphere. Rugs, runners and layered area rugs help define spaces, dampen sound and add color and pattern.

Area rugs or runners soften hard floors and can be layered over an existing rug to anchor seating areas. My dog Jack loves rugs because they give him a comfortable place to nap and keep an eye on the household.

Throw pillows are a simple, effective way to invite relaxation. Pile plump, cozy pillows on sofas, daybeds, chairs and beds to encourage lounging. Extra cushions make every seat more comfortable for family and guests — furry members included.

4. Multiply textures and function with baskets.

Baskets bring organic texture and practical storage to a room. They work beautifully as decorative pieces while hiding clutter or containing blankets, magazines and everyday items.

Hang a few baskets on the wall, tuck them onto shelves, or place them by seating areas to store cozy throws. Baskets can also conceal plastic plant pots to elevate houseplants into attractive focal points.

Use baskets where they serve more than one purpose: decoration, storage and organization. They add warmth and a lived-in feel while keeping your space tidy.

5. Bring in your favorite little touches.

Small details personalize a home and make it feel intentional. A new dish towel in the kitchen, a seasonal candle, or a framed photo can add personality without overwhelming a room.

Think about the elements that speak to you this time of year and add more of those touches. Your home should reflect your style and the people who live there.

Your home will come to life as you fill it with fall comforts, your stories and your unique style — and of course your favorite people and furry friends.

What are your favorite ways to refresh your home in the fall?
